As Australia’s only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital, the Eye and Ear has been providing care for the senses for over 160 years. The Eye and Ear has almost 90 different outpatient clinics for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of vision and hearing loss and provides a 24-hour emergency eye and ear, nose and throat service. 

 

Every year the Eye and Ear cares for nearly 200,000 patients, with over 136,000 outpatients, over 42,000 emergency patients and over 14,000 inpatients. The hospital recently completed a major redevelopment to create a modern internal structure and to improve access for patients, visitors and staff.

About the Role

12-month Fellowship - commencing February 2026

The Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital is a world leader in the provision of eye, ear, nose and throat services, education, research and health promotion for the community. Our mission is to provide highly specialised care by setting international standards of quality, innovation and efficiency. The RVEEH Cataract Fellow will be an integral part of Surgical Ophthalmology Service (SOS).  Rotation to other associated services within the Victorian region may be required for short times.  SOS receives tertiary care referrals from an extended area within Victoria.  The Fellow will be exposed to and trained in current state of the art advanced diagnostic, medical, and surgical techniques in the management of anterior segment disorders.  The primary objective of the fellowship is to provide the fellow with exposure to and hands on training with the most advanced and complex cataract surgical problems.  Surgical approaches would be performed with the latest devices, technology and techniques, with the exception of femtosecond laser.

 

Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Doctors-in-Training Agreement 2022-2026.
