The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is a world class specialist hospital in eye and ear care providing services across Victoria. As Australia’s only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital, the Eye and Ear has been providing care for the senses for over 160 years. The Eye and Ear has almost 90 different outpatient clinics for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of vision and hearing loss and provides a 24-hour emergency eye and ear, nose and throat service. 

Every year the Eye and Ear cares for nearly 200,000 patients, with over 136,000 outpatients, over 42,000 emergency patients and over 14,000 inpatients. The hospital recently completed a major redevelopment to create a modern internal structure and to improve access for patients, visitors and staff.

About the Role

 12-Month Glaucoma Fellowship available:

• 02 February 2026 – 31 January 2027
• 03 August 2026 - 01 August 2027

The position will provide the Fellows with excellent clinical training in all aspects of glaucoma management.  At the end of the 12-month program, the Fellows will be well-placed to pursue a career as a glaucoma sub-specialist and should have the skills and experience to work in a tertiary referral centre.   There is a minimum of three subspecialty glaucoma clinics and two glaucoma operating sessions per week, supervised by consultants.  The Fellows will participate in the Unit’s on-call roster.  In addition, the Fellows will be rostered to shifts in our specialised Emergency Department.  This is an excellent opportunity to maintain general ophthalmology skills, at the same time as providing a valuable educational resource to other medical staff working within the Department.

Salary and conditions of employment for the clinical fellows will be in accordance with the Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Doctors-in-Training Agreement 2022-2026.
