About the Role

Medical Retina Fellow

12-month Fixed Term Full Time Position – commencing February 2026 and August 2026.

 

The Medical Retina Unit has two fellowship positions starting February and one starting in August each year. The unit is headed by Dr Amy Cohn and there are twenty consultants attached to the unit, all of whom have completed subspecialty fellowship training in retina. The position is a combination of clinical (0.8 FTE)  through the Royal Victorian eye and Ear Hospital and research through the Centre for Eye Research Australia / Cerulea (0.2 FTE).

 

The Fellow attends both Medical Retina and Ocular Immunology Clinics each week. There is also the opportunity for rotation through Ocular Genetics, Vitreo-retinal and Ocular Oncology clinics. Fellows will be rostered to weekly intravitreal injection and laser clinics.  There is a fortnightly cataract surgery list primarily for patients with retinal disease. Successful applicants are expected to have experience in retinal laser, intravitreal injections and cataract surgery. There is a weekly angiogram meeting for interesting case discussion and teaching. In addition fellows will have the opportunity to present at department meetings.

 

The research is supervised by Professor Robyn Guymer (Head of Macular Research Unit) and Professor Lyndell Lim (Head of Uveitis and Retinal Vascular Disease Research). Two sessions per week are dedicated to research and ongoing involvement with trials supervised by the Macular Research Unit and Clinical Trials Unit. 

 

All fellows will be rostered to one session in the hospital’s busy Emergency Department and will participate in after hours on-call shared between both medical retinal and ocular immunology fellows.

 

Salary and conditions of employment for the clinical fellows will be in accordance with the Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Doctors-in-Training Agreement 2022-2026.
