The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is a world class specialist hospital in eye and ear care providing services across Victoria. As Australia’s only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital, the Eye and Ear has been providing care for the senses for over 160 years. The Eye and Ear has almost 90 different outpatient clinics for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of vision and hearing loss and provides a 24-hour emergency eye and ear, nose and throat service.
Every year the Eye and Ear cares for nearly 200,000 patients, with over 136,000 outpatients, over 42,000 emergency patients and over 14,000 inpatients. The hospital recently completed a major redevelopment to create a modern internal structure and to improve access for patients, visitors and staff.

About the Role
12-month Fellowship commencing February 2026
The OPAL Fellowship has a strong clinical component, with a busy operating schedule and clinics with a significant number of new tertiary referrals from a wide and steady source, as well as emergency patients.
In addition three OPAL outpatient clinics per fortnight, the Fellow will be rostered to shifts in our specialised Emergency Department. This is an excellent opportunity to maintain general ophthalmology skills, at the same time as providing a valuable educational resource to other medical staff working within the Department.
There are three to five theatre lists per week with the opportunity to undertake solo lists after Orientation and assessment. The Fellow may also gain additional surgical experience by private assisting OPAL Consultants.
The Fellow will participate in the Unit’s and Emergency Department’s on-call roster and is expected to be involved in education and supervision of junior trainee registrars.
Salary and conditions of employment for the clinical fellows will be in accordance with the Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Doctors-in-Training Agreement 2022-2026.
