Director, Philanthropy and Fundraising 

 

  • $159,000 (FTE) package plus salary packaging  

  • Shape and grow the fundraising portfolio for Australia’s only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital. 

  • Design innovative programs across major donors, appeals, trusts, foundations and more 

 

About the Role  

 

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and leading a team of three part‑time staff, this senior leadership position provides strategic direction and hands-on oversight of the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital’s fundraising programs. 

This is a unique opportunity to drive philanthropic growth at Australia’s only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital—supporting life-changing care for over 200,000 patients each year.  

Current programs under management include: 

  • Fundraising appeals 

  • Donor newsletter 

  • Grateful patient program 

  • Major donor program 

  • Regular giving program 

  • Community fundraising 

  • Corporate partnerships 

  • Trusts and foundations 

  • Gifts in wills 

 

You will bring your creative leadership and strategic innovation to refreshing the programs, growing revenues and delivering measurable and lasting benefits to the hospital and its patients.  

This role is available full-time or part-time (0.8 FTE) to suit the successful candidate. 

 

About you  

 

You’re a seasoned leader with a strong record of building trusted relationships and generating philanthropic support. You communicate with confidence and ease across diverse audiences, including donors, executives and board members. 

  • Senior experience in philanthropy and fundraising roles 

  • Tertiary qualification in Business Administration, Fundraising, Marketing, Communications, or a related discipline.  

  • Membership with the Fundraising Institute of Australia (FIA) and completion of the FIA Code of Conduct course is desirable 

  • Strategic leadership capability, with proven team management and coaching experience. 

  • A track record of managing and growing major donor relationships. 

  • Strong skills in developing compelling donor communications. 

  • Creativity to initiate new approaches and campaigns and revenue streams 

  • Commercial mindset - financial and strategic acumen, with budgeting and data‑driven decision-making experience. 

  • The ability to support the CEO and board in high-level donor engagement.
